Duties & Responsibilities     

Reporting to the Dean, and in close collaboration with the Academic Dean, the Executive Dean, and Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching as required, the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs has broad responsibility for the administration of academic appointments and faculty affairs, and selected related operations.

The Associate Dean will:
Oversee the successful execution of academic searches and faculty review processes from start to finish, including supporting the Dean in the negotiation of faculty offers and the process of recruiting new faculty.  Support the work of the Faculty Appointments Committee, including assistance in coordinating reviews and developing policies and reports.

Draft and/or revise reports, policies, forms, letters and other communications related to faculty appointments and affairs. Ensure that official policies, guidelines, FAQs and other resources are up to date and accessible to the community. Ensure compliance with mandated reporting requirements.

Oversee operational aspects of faculty affairs services, e.g. academic appointments processing, and related services for core and adjunct faculty, retired faculty, postdoctoral fellows, courtesy academic visitors, teaching fellows, and student research assistants (~approximately 450 appointments per year).

Develop and continuously improve systems, services, and operational processes to ensure efficient and friendly service for academic and student constituents, including visitors, while upholding standards and requirements for record-keeping, data management, and compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

Serve as an expert resource on University policies and processes, relevant government regulations, and administrative systems.

Provide timely, responsive and accurate assistance to faculty members or other academic appointees who have questions or experience problems related to their appointments.

Manage academic and operating budgets; provide analytic support for forecasting, budget development, and faculty planning.

Serve as a liaison to the University Provost’s Office and participate in meetings with the other University Faculty Affairs Deans.

Serve as HGSE’s Title IX Coordinator for faculty and other academic appointees.

Coordinate with other School and University administrative offices as required.

This position has a 6 month Orientation and Review period.
Basic Qualifications     

Bachelor’s degree and at least seven years relevant professional experience.
Additional Qualifications     

Advanced degree strongly preferred. Outstanding organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple demands simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional attention to detail. Experience and skill in managing staff to perform at a high level; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong customer service orientation; strong budgeting and data management skills; ability to work effectively with people across the organization; utmost discretion and respect for confidentiality; initiative. Prior experience working closely with faculty members and/or in academic affairs or faculty administration in a college or university strongly preferred. Facility with Excel critical.
