Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise, guide, and/or instruct the work assignments of subordinate staff.
  • Train the staff responsible for developing and implementing evidence-based best practices and promoting practices in chronic disease prevention programs, such as worksite wellness, healthy eating, active living, health ministry, addressing obesity in Southwest Health District, tobacco control, and community health worker initiatives.
  • Assure quality service delivery and oversee data collection and reporting to illustrate programmatic outcomes. 
  • Plan, direct, and implement a specialty program.
  • Develop partnerships and assess community health needs
  • Requires travel to the other counties in our district
  • Provides presentations to schools, churches, organizations, etc., as indicated by programmatic needs.
  • Physical Requirements include occasional lifting of up to 45 lbs.
  • Responds to Public Health Emergencies

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in public health education AND One year of public health education experience at a level equivalent to a lead worker level OR Bachelor's degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of experience in public health education, One year of which was at a lead level OR One year of experience at the lower level Health Educator 3 (HCP032) or position equivalent. Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a master’s degree in a related field such as MPH, Health Policy, or related field and 3 years of experience in public health.
  • Two years of experience working in chronic disease prevention and/or health promotion programs.
  • Previous employment with any state’s Department of Public Health or a County Board of Health
  • Skilled communicator and expertise in community engagement 
  • Experience developing and working with budgets
  • Experience in implementing evidence-based strategies to facilitate behavioral and environmental change
  • Experience with developing collaborations/partnerships

This position may require driving company vehicles (Valid driver’s license required) and working some evenings and weekends during special events such as health fairs and responding to disasters.
