As the assistant director, you will supervise a team of student staff and collaborate on large SCADhome initiatives and signature events. In this role you will create a common language for consistency in communication; monitor and ensure reasonable response times for communications to SCADhome; interface with partners, students, and families; manage programming inventory; plan and execute events; and ensure that SCADhome processes are designed as positive, meaningful, value-driven experiences. Responsibilities include training student staff and developing training materials, assessing residential and employee satisfaction, collaborating with internal departments on events, and developing project management standards.

In this position you will be expected to maintain student staff files and assist with the building the department’s community development plan. As the assistant director, you will be responsible for implementing programming that supports students’ academic success, connection to SCAD and the community, and encourages their retention and successful completion of a SCAD degree. You will oversee community development resources for staff; facilitate and attend meetings with staff across the university; and participate in supporting various university- and department-wide processes, functions, and events.

The ideal candidate must be able to embed a “plus one” mindset into all business functions and be comfortable coordinating the student leader recruitment and hiring process. They must be able to serve as an upper-level hearing and investigative officer for issues involving alleged violations of the code of student conduct, manage the department budget, and be able to serve as an On-Call Manager (OCM) in the campus duty rotation, responding to both resident and commuter student concerns.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of full-time experience in residence life and housing or other group living environment with an emphasis on coordinating housing services
  • Excellent customer service, communication, user experience, presentation, budgeting, reasoning, event planning, and data analyses skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic office environment

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience specifically in higher education, student development, counseling, hospitality management, or related field
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • At least five years of full-time experience in residence life and housing
  • Training and development background
  • Former event planning experience highly recommended

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver’s license

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
