In consultation with the dean, associate dean, chair, and department members, you will provide input on a strategic direction for the department and implement strategies to attract acclaim and high ranking within and beyond higher education. Within your team, you will foster a positively oriented university environment through respect, collegiality, and collaboration through frequent communications. You will also encourage academic excellence in instruction, engagement, and work outcomes through documented student achievements.

In this role, you will supervise faculty to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures in the Faculty Handbook, and regularly review the curriculum for quality, relevancy, and adherence to educational outcome statements, assessments, and accreditation activities. You will coordinate curriculum development with program leaders and internal teams at other SCAD locations and manage academic scheduling in collaboration with academic services and coordination of teaching and learning resources. You will actively participate in faculty recruitment trips, interviews, and candidate presentations; submit anticipated headcount needs; review potential candidates to make recommendations; and consult with academic leaders on hiring decisions. You will also encourage faculty and staff to showcase outstanding student work, collaborate with admission to recruit talented students, and coordinate the analyzation of graduate applications to ensure consistency and timely reviews.

The successful candidate demonstrates exceptional leadership and the ability to devise and implement strategic plans with measurable outcomes. A commitment to teaching and learning is paramount, as well as a thorough understanding of curriculum development and the use of assessments to improve learning and programs. The candidate should be able to conduct fair performance evaluations — including classroom observations, productive individual evaluation meetings, and written evaluations — to reinforce a faculty member’s strengths and suggestions for improvement.

Outstanding judgement is essential, as this role involves making decisions on academic waivers and expectations. The candidate must be dedicated to personal and professional integrity.
