Position Description
Join a dynamic team of seasoned Human Resources (HR) practitioners within Central Administration at Harvard University. This team provides direct HR consultation for a complex and diverse portfolio of client groups that represent arts, business, theater, planning and design, publishing, and academic research. Our team partners with leaders, managers, employees and teams to adopt programs, policies and practices in alignment with the Attract, Develop and Retain employee life cycle, while fostering greater performance and engagement.
As the Associate Director of HR Consulting, you will provide strategic guidance, advice, and leadership to clients on all Human Resources related activities, in support of/or aligned with local business priorities. Additionally, you will:
- Deliver sophisticated, responsive, and effective HR consultation to clients within the Office of the President and Provost.
- Contribute to strategic priorities by identifying, prioritizing, and building organizational capabilities and effectiveness.
- Provide appropriate and practical advice and coaching to senior leaders, managers, and employees to foster a strong leadership and coaching culture.
- Partner with the Talent Acquisition & Outreach team and client areas to build a robust workforce management culture and plan talent pipeline requirements.
- Implement effective performance management strategies to create and sustain a high-performance workforce.
- Manage the annual performance evaluation and annual salary increase process for designated client groups
- Engage with department leaders and managers to identify and provide employees with development opportunities.
- Partner with managers, employees, HR colleagues, and bargaining unit representatives to address workplace issues and facilitate collaborative problem-solving.
- Develop data analytics and dashboards/reports for senior leadership
- Provide direct compensation consultation and education, ensuring compliance with University HR policies, procedures, and legal regulations.
- Serve as Title IX Resource Coordinator and Local Designated Resource, providing information and support on appropriate training related to gender and other forms of discrimination.
- Proactively recommend actions to address employee concerns and ensure an inclusive and welcoming organization free from discrimination, harassment, and bullying.
- Collaborate with HR colleagues to identify, enhance, and advance more equitable and inclusive policies and practices.
- Participate in University-wide committees and initiatives supporting a welcoming and inclusive employee experience.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
- Minimum of 8 years’ relevant HR experience

Working Conditions
This position requires on-campus presence that can range from 0-4 days per week, depending on business needs.
Work is performed in an office setting.
Harvard Human Resources actively supports hybrid work where business and team needs allow. This is a five day per week position with a hybrid schedule. Work Format Details
This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
