Position Summary
The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Business Intelligence Analyst.
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Business Intelligence Analyst to join our dynamic team. This role focuses on data management, cleaning, and preparing analyses for academic papers and policy memos. The successful candidate will support the development of a large, complex data system designed for institutional research and conduct statistical analyses using these data. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research and policy development at an institutional level.
Duties/Responsibilities
External Surveys:
- Collect, analyze, and report data for external surveys including IPEDS, Common Data Set, and U.S. News.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of survey data.
- Coordinate with relevant departments to gather necessary information and ensure consistency in reporting.
Dashboard and Report Development:
- Develop dashboards based on user requirements, key performance indicators, and the University's strategic plan using tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
- Create visualizations to present data clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain dashboards for users on operations including enrollment reporting and the university factbook.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Develop and maintain queries, reports, spreadsheets, and data extracts using the data warehouse and BI tools.
- Conduct statistical analyses using software such as Stata, R, SQL, or Python.
- Merge data from multiple sources in preparation for analysis.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation and data dictionaries.
- Generate "rapid response" reports for key policy partners.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Assess stakeholders' business processes and reporting needs to provide data analysis that aids in decision-making.
- Collaborate with various institutional partners and departments during data collection.
- Work closely with stakeholders to define requirements based on business objectives.
User Support and Training:
- Provide support and training to end users regarding data warehouse/BI-related problems and issues.
- Develop user guides and provide training to data end-users.
- Initiate processes and documentation of University reports, developing procedures to ensure data security and integrity.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, data analytics, information systems, or a related field.
- Proficiency in statistical programming and data management using tools such as Stata, R, SQL, and/or Python.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in data cleaning and data modeling.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workloads effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
- Experience in cleaning and analyzing large-scale administrative data.
- Familiarity with a broad range of statistical techniques, including descriptive, exploratory, and causal analysis.
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
- Experience in predictive modeling and survey design.
Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements
- Standard work hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Occasional extended hours may be needed during critical reporting periods.
- This position is primarily office-based with the option for hybrid work arrangements, depending on departmental needs.
- Minimal travel may be required to attend meetings/conferences.
