The Communication, Media and Theater Arts (CMTA) Department at Holyoke Community College seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member to bring vision and innovation to the digital media courses and programming within the department’s Integrated Studies Degree Option. As part of the college’s efforts to ensure equitable outcomes for all HCC students, candidates must bring a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in their teaching practice, as well as a record of excellence in college-level instruction. In addition to teaching experience, candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to student-centered advising and an interest in actively engaging with the communities HCC serves.
The Integrated Studies Option provides a foundation in communication and production skills for students interested in a wide range of careers. We seek candidates with expertise in a variety of existing digital communication/production skills, such as podcasting, video production, audio production, radio, interactive digital media, and film criticism, as well as the interest and curiosity to explore new technologies as they emerge. The ideal candidate will help us revitalize our Media Arts Center through collaborative work with department faculty and college IT professionals.
In addition to teaching experience, candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to student-centered advising, and to building partnerships that will enhance students’ opportunities for career and transfer. Such partnerships may include internal collaborations with colleagues in the CMTA department or in Art and Business, as well as external collaborations to expand career and transfer opportunities for CMTA students.
Although hybrid teaching options may be available, this position will require a substantial amount of in-person, on-campus work with students, faculty, and community partners.
1. Teach foundation and advanced courses in all areas of Digital Media: Introduction to Digital Media, Fundamentals of Video, Interactive Digital Storytelling, Intro to Radio Broadcasting, History and Criticism of Film, and Digital Audio.
2. Remain knowledgeable about developments and trends in the field, and proficient in current Digital Media software and practices.
3. Coordinate and advance Digital Media by designing new and updating existing courses to maintain an evolving, contemporary, and forward-looking curriculum.
4. Contribute to department efforts to recruit and retain students.
5. Supervise and support student work including displaying student projects on displays In the Media Arts Center.
6. Collaborate with Theater and Communication faculty on campus-wide projects and initiatives.
7. Work with IT staff to manage and maintain the computer lab and equipment in the Digital Media classrooms.
8. Provide academic advising for Communication, Media and Theater Arts students.
9. Meet with and assist students during office hours.
10.Participate in shared governance committees, as well as other committees, task forces, and sub-committees.
11.Provide college service as required by the MCCC contract.
REQUIRED:
- Master’s Degree in Media Production, Communication or related field completed by August 15, 2025.
- Minimum two (2) years of teaching Media Production at the college level as instructor of record.
- Evidence of ongoing professional creative practice.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, Audition, After Effects).
- Experience working successfully with a diverse student body.
- Demonstrated excellent teaching skills, including varied pedagogical strategies.
- Experience with culturally responsive pedagogies.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on projects and initiatives.
PREFERRED:
- A record of teaching excellence in Media Production at a community college or at the first year/sophomore college level.
- Professional experience in the field of Media Production.
- Proven ability to envision and provide strategic leadership to academic programs, fostering growth, innovation, and excellence in alignment with institutional goals.
