In the role reporting to the Global Head of Communications for Global Banking and Markets (GBM) and Head of US Communications for HSBC, the role holder will be responsible for internal and external communications for GBM, institutional clients and Global Research from and in the US. This encompasses providing strategic counsel and direction to the Global Banking leadership team on employee engagement, as well as crafting and executing integrated communications strategies for the business. The leader must be seasoned at stakeholder management working closely with senior executives, large employee audiences, spokespeople and the media. They must have excellent writing and presenation skills and collaborate with team members to develop integrated and aligned plans that bring about tangible outcomes across all of HSBC.

A primary objective of this position is to articulate a clear and impactful narrative around Global Banking's strategy and contributions to employees, clients, and stakeholders. Integration and collaboration will be essential for success, necessitating close coordination with key stakeholders such as the Co-Head of Global Banking Coverage, Head of GB Americas, and US-based Global Research Leads. 

This role requires a strong leader who can work closely with stakeholders to develop, socialize, measure and report on strategic programs that drive business outcomes and raise brand awareness. The leader must be familiar with the current operating and competitive landscape, future trends, geopolitical shifts and macroeconomic conditions. In addition, the role holder must work closely with executives, research analysts, thought leaders and the media to proactively increase brand awareness and drive business priorities.

The role demands a proactive and hands-on approach, with the communications leader expected to actively engage in cross-functional collaboration with the wider GBM communications team, including the Head of Global Banking Communications, Group Media Relations, and other relevant functions. This collaborative ethos ensures an integrated approach to communications that maximizes value for both GBM and HSBC as a whole.

As our Head of Communications US Global Banking, Markets and Global Research you will:

  • Manage, develop and deliver the GBM, institutional clients and Global Research (intellectual capital/thought leadership) communications content plans for and from the US
  • Lead and deliver communications activity for the US GBM and Global Research leadership teams aligned to GBM business, as well as functional and enterprise-wide priorities
  • Apply commercial knowledge to identify issues impacting employee engagement and advise leadership accordingly
  • Ensure quality execution of GBM US and Global Research US external and employee communications campaigns and projects
  • Oversee the quality of change communications support for the strategic global transformation programmes for the relevant areas
  • Lead the US GBM and US Global Research communications planning and execution. Be a proactive and positive contributor to the wider GBM communications team, US Communications team and Group Communications & Brand function

For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $134,500.00 and $201,800.00

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

Requirements

You´ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • Ability to act as a leader and role model in a global and diverse communications team, working effectively and pro-actively across multiple geographies and time-zones as part of an international firm
  • Ability to lead in developing, managing and implementing effective joined-up internal and external communications strategies and planning.
  • Experience in complex risks and issues management
  • Experience in creative communications development and thought leadership
  • Experience of working in a complex, international matrix organization and diverse culture
  • Strong breadth of knowledge of investment banking and relevant trends
  • Exceptional writing skills, with proven experience in improving this capability in others
  • Ability to use insight to track and measure the effectiveness of communications
