Physical Requirements

This position requires regularly walking throughout the facility and sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time, and standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 lbs.; occasionally lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to or over 50 lbs.; and exposure to bloodborne/airborne pathogens, hazardous chemicals and fumes including bodily waste, sharps/needles, patient care equipment, and some occasional job-related travel. This position will also interact regularly with hospital patients and visitors.



Shift

Primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm with call on a rotating basis; additional evening, weekend, and/or holiday hours may be required in order to meet job and departmental business needs. This is a hybrid position.



Job Summary

The HealthCare Safety Specialist is a healthcare enterprise position responsible for the oversight of the healthcare environment, including patient, visitor, and employee safety, regulatory compliance, and emergency management. The individual in this position will lead healthcare safety programs across the UKHC enterprise in order to ensure Joint Commission and OSHA compliance, as well as other regulatory bodies. In support of this, the HealthCare Safety Specialist will conduct inspections and audits and develop reports for both clinical and non-clinical areas, as well as research environmental safety trends within UKHC and outside entities through the evaluation of incident reports. In order to promote compliance and enterprise safety, the HealthCare Safety Specialist will participate in and collaborate with other departments and officials through various committees and work groups; conduct thorough and consistent rounding of the healthcare environment to evaluate potential issues and ensure all areas are meeting federal and university safety standards; lead the communication of planning and preparedness emergency management activities; monitoring and maintaining industrial hygiene equipment and exposure data for the enterprise; and providing healthcare leadership and officials with product evaluation and technical advisement. This is a hybrid position.



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in environmental safety and related program leadership specifically within a large healthcare environment.

Healthcare and/or environmental safety employment experience and current Certified Industrial Hygienist preferred.
