This position provides instruction in a wide range of mathematics content, including developmental and upper level courses. While there may be opportunities to teach some fully online sections, the majority of the courses will be taught on site. 

The Mathematics Department at Holyoke Community College seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member to bring vision and innovation to our Mathematics Department and to help advance the college’s efforts to ensure equitable outcomes for all HCC students. Candidates should bring a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in their teaching practice. Faculty members participate in department initiatives to better prepare mathematics students for transfer and careers and have an interest in actively engaging with the communities HCC serves.  Candidates for this position should demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching in the college environment, as well interest in working collaboratively with colleagues, transfer institutions, and community organizations.
  • Develop innovative methods for teaching developmental, college and upper level mathematics courses primarily on campus.
  • Review and update curriculum
  • Review and experiment with pedagogy as well as evaluate alternative teaching strategies including inquiry-oriented teaching, project-based learning, distance learning and Learning Communities.
  • Review student placement, standards and means.
  • Assess student and program learning outcomes.
  • Incorporate technology in the classroom.
  • Develop and implement new courses.
  • Pursue grant opportunities.
  • Participates in program and degree advising for students suited to students' career and transfer goals.
  • Actively participates in department, division and professional staff meetings as well as other components of college governance.
  • Participates in college programs and activities including holding office hours.

REQUIRED:  

  • Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Applied Mathematics, or a related field; 
  • Demonstrated interest and ability in the classroom teaching of community college mathematics courses, both developmental and upper level;
  • Experience using varied pedagogical styles including collaborative and active learning;
  • Ability to use various technology effectively to teach mathematics:
  • Excellent communication skills; 
  • Ability to engage in professional non-instructional duties such as college committees and advising; 
  • Commitment to and understanding of the community college mission; 
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body,
  • Core graduate level mathematics courses.
NOTE:  A teaching demonstration will be a required part of the interview process.

PREFERRED: 
  • Experience with collaborative, inquiry-based, and/or experience in developmental education and distance education; 
  • College teaching experience in mathematics; 
  • Understanding the unique environment of the community college experience; 
  • Use of current open education resources (OER) and graphing technology; 
  • Experience using modern technology and programming such as R or Python, teaching and/or developing statistics and data science curricula;
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Full-time, tenure-track MCCC/MTA position

Salary:  Minimum $54,820-$64,159 (subject to salary increase effective January 1, 2025).  Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits.
