Job Description:

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Center for Health Protection, Facilities Planning and Safety Program  in Portland, Oregon has a fantastic career opportunity for a Plans Examiner (Health Facilities Consultant). The Plans Examiner will conduct reviews of schematic design (architectural) plans for health care facilities regulated by the Health Care Regulation and Quality Improvement Section.

This is a full-time, management service position, not represented by a union. This recruitment may be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill current or future vacancies.

What will you do?
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that newly constructed or remodeled health care facilities provide safe and adequate care and lodging for persons who receive medical services therein.

To this end, program Plans Examiners will:

  • Conduct architectural reviews of submitted projects.
  • Manage the coordination of engineering and Fire Life Safety plan reviews.
  • Support project sponsors and architects of record in their efforts to comply with applicable regulations.
  • Assist licensing agencies to ensure that completed projects comply with applicable regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in the research, development, design, construction, alteration, or repair of Oregon health and residential care facilities.

AND

Bachelor's degree in Architecture or three more years of pertinent architecture experience.

Desired Attributes:

The position requires skills necessary to manage various often unrelated tasks concurrently. The ability to demonstrate competence in application of rules and codes is essential. In addition, the ability to productively interact with diverse partners and facilitate the development of draft rule language is required.

Experience in the research, development, design, construction, alteration, or repair of Oregon health and residential care facilities; AND a bachelor’s degree in architecture or three or more years of pertinent design and construction industry experience.

Working Conditions:

Regular travel throughout the state to complete construction project inspections. At least 75% of the work of this role may be conducted remotely with full access to the needed operating systems and technology. There are times that work will need to be conducted onsite. On site work occurs in a standard office environment or at construction sites with no unusual physical demands or exposures.
