Recreation Counselor

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervising patient use of the fitness facility. Instructing patients on the proper use of fitness equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions.
- Supervising and facilitating organized therapeutic recreation activities
- Provide therapeutic education of Recreation and Fitness to both patients and staff through lectures and other modalities.
- Supervising and conducting activities on the high elements challenge course for patients, staff and other participants.
- Facilitating ABC (Adventure Based Counseling) activities for patients
- Facilitating Team Building Activities for Caron Staff.
- Providing lectures and groups for patients.
- Sharing weekend coverage.
- Scheduling and coordinating therapeutic off campus activities through our approved vendors.
- Scheduling and coordinating therapeutic off campus activities through clinical departments to ensure safety and therapeutic value to our patients.
- Transporting patients and facilitating off campus activities.
- Providing services for Teen and Young Adult programs.
- This position may demand specialty job duties and responsibilities that have a direct therapeutic impact on patient care. These specialty job duties and responsibilities will be based off the staff’s qualifications and may include the following services: Yoga, Meditation, Personal Training, Fitness Plan Writing, Dance / Movement, Senior Wellness Activities.

- Staff must be able to physically demonstrate proper weight training technique and be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Must be able to facilitate and participate in hiking, walking, camping, belaying and other recreational activities where a demonstrable level of personal fitness is required.
- Staff person must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license.
- Must be able to stand for longer periods of time.
Education / Experience Qualifications:
- A degree in recreation, physical education or a related field preferred. Sufficient directly related experience may be substituted for a degree.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A Personal Training Certification is required. If not held, expected to be obtained after hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work well with adolescents and adults.
- Outdoor skills including but not limited to hiking, biking, life skills, leisure activities.
- Event planning.
- Ability to demonstrate competence in challenge course technology.
- Knowledge of weight training and athletics.
- Public speaking and providing lectures for patients and staff.
