Senior Director, WW Medical Neuropsychiatry, Strategy and Operations is responsible for the planning activities of Worldwide Neuropsychiatry Medical organization, including brand and medical planning, budget planning, congress planning, workforce planning, and planning and execution of special projects. This role is responsible for partnering with colleagues within Medical Affairs and matrix functions to lead and support Strategic Planning responsibilities. A successful candidate would be a driver in the Neuropsychiatry organization, delivering rigorous strategy and execution to portfolio optimization, evidence generation across the portfolio, and ensuring WW Medical Neuropsychiatry contribution to effective, repeatable product launches.

Key Responsibilities
  • This key role is the strategic and operational partner to the SVP and Head, WW Medical Neuropsychiatry. As such, the Portfolio Strategy Lead must effectively and efficiently collaborate with/advise both their operating partners and other leaders in the organization to evaluate, assess, design, enhance and develop long and short-term strategies (1-5 years).
  • The role has extremely broad scope and complexity, needing to influence strategy and medical launch excellence across a broad portfolio in the US, European Markets, and InterContinental Regions.
  • Extensive experience translating strategy to actionable projects and initiatives is also required of the candidate.
  • Drive the successful delivery of project and portfolio objectives by ensuring effective stakeholder management, alignment, and business engagement, and provide guidance to colleagues and business leaders to improve project outcomes and remove barriers to successful execution.
  • Coordinate portfolio management & planning, provide guidance to stakeholders regarding budget trends, P&L guidance, implications and identify opportunities and solutions. Engage a matrix team in order to allocate resources with the right skills to appropriate projects/initiatives.
  • In collaboration with Finance, establish budgets for Medical Affairs (includes MEG budgets). Work within Medical Affairs and Finance to forecast MEG cost recognition and develop risk-adjustment model to allow better forecasting of committed spending.
  • Oversight of the entire MEG BOW with an estimated annual budget of ~$100M will be a key deliverable working with Matrix partners to ensure Cost and Quality control
  • Working with Disease Teams to establish and/or review on a regular basis the Integrated Evidence Plans (IEPs) for each disease area for life cycle management in collaboration with key cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Must be able to monitor and assess external trends to inform and educate stakeholders and stay abreast of macro trends in the healthcare environment, therapeutic area market and brand business drivers.
  • Ability to work seamlessly across the BMS enterprise (both within and outside Medical and form a strong partnership with commercial) and coordinate the input of stakeholders.
  • Leverage capabilities and expertise within the broader Medical organization to drive business objectives, resolve business issues, and optimize opportunities.
  • Work closely with TA and Asset Medical Heads and HR in the areas of recruitment, workforce planning, contingent workforce resource planning, succession planning, organizational structure, and other HR-related matters
Qualifications & Experience
  • International experience highly desirable.
  • Advanced degree preferred. 15 plus years of direct professional experience in Pharmaceutical development in life sciences, biopharmaceuticals; strong understanding of biopharma drug development and commercialization process. Seeking balanced combination of scientific and business acumen
  • Demonstrated strength in understanding overarching company goals, performing strategic assessments, and developing clearly framed choices and recommendations
  • Experience with evaluating Business development opportunities preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred; 10+ years portfolio management/leadership
  • Prior experience as 'Chief of staff' to executive level preferred
  • Market experience preferred
  • Experience working across a range of Medical and/or clinical development roles a plus
  • Experience in analytics, particularly in relation to product launches
  • Experience in project and/or portfolio management with the ability to develop clear action plans and execute
  • Ability to build relationships, influence and drive organizational engagement at all levels
  • Ability to lead strategically, drive performance, build alignment, negotiate and collaborate
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven track record of effective people management including coaching, motivating and development planning in a multicultural environment.
