As the shop technician, you will maintain a safe, functional, and clean working shop environment while performing basic maintenance on equipment and facilities. This includes wood shops, metal shops, plastic labs, sculpture facilities, laser cutters, and 3D printers. You must demonstrate safe and correct operations of studio equipment, enforce all shop policies, provide data to the shop manager, safe and correct operations of studio equipment, and oversee daily assignments to ensure they are thoroughly completed. Additionally, you will participate in university special projects, attend all university-sponsored safety and secure training sessions, and provide backup operations support. 

Minimum Qualifications:   

  • High school diploma 
  • Advanced working knowledge of woodworking equipment, processes, and techniques  
  • Basic maintenance and mechanical knowledge  
  • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork  
  • Cleanliness, attention to detail, organizational skills, basic computer skills, and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Adobe Illustrator   

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree 
  • Knowledge of plastic fabrication   

Certificates, licenses, and registrations: Valid driver’s license  

Travel Required: Less than 10%     

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other work days and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
