The Global Government Affairs group within the General Counsel’s Organization seeks a Vice President (VP), U.S. Regulatory Relations – Reporting and Quality Assurance. As the principal intermediary between American Express and the supervisory personnel of its federal banking regulators, the U.S. Regulatory Relations (USRR) team plays a critical strategic role driving a cohesive approach to supervision, including by identifying focus areas of the regulators across engagements and preparing company leadership for interactions with supervisory personnel. The Reporting and Quality Assurance team within USRR is responsible for reporting on regulatory matters to a range of critical stakeholders, including senior company leadership, as well as quality assurance testing to ensure adherence to performance standards in supervisory engagements.
As head of the Reporting and Quality Assurance team, the successful candidate will play a central role in cascading awareness of regulatory developments and focus areas through a steady stream of reporting on supervisory activity and trends. To gather critical information and insights, this individual will collaborate closely with colleagues from USRR who directly support regulatory engagements, as well as the Regulatory Exam Lifecycle Management (RELM) team within Global Risk & Compliance and the Internal Audit Group (IAG). This individual will also oversee regular quality assurance testing and reporting across USRR and RELM engagements. Special projects, including process optimization initiatives, will provide additional growth opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of a range of reporting products for key internal and external constituencies including senior executives, the Boards of Directors of American Express (AXP) and American Express National Bank (AENB), a high volume of management representatives who support regulatory engagements, and supervisory personnel.
- Review reporting source data for quality and completeness. Collaborate with colleagues from USRR, RELM and IAG to drive process enhancements to ensure data quality.
- Oversee monthly quality assurance testing to assess and drive adherence to performance standards in addressing regulatory inquiries and maintaining an internal repository of information about regulatory engagements and remediation of regulatory findings. Deliver quality assurance testing results, including through quarterly presentations to a governance forum comprised of multiple senior executives.
- Collaborate across teams to develop and manage automated solutions for efficient reporting operations and data visualization. Partner with data source system owners to drive system enhancements as needed.
- Oversee maintenance and updates of supervisory reporting and records repositories, including the USRR website. Understand requirements and collaborate with Technology to design and implement solutions.
- Working in collaboration with colleagues in USRR and RELM, support governance and operations including procedures management, PRSA testing and certification, template creation, training, etc.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant experience
- Prior regulatory reporting or comparable reporting experience strongly preferred
- Advanced Excel, PowerPoint and data visualization skills (e.g., Tableau)
- Excellent analytical skills, including keen attention to detail and ability to synthesize broader context and trends
- Excellent communication skills, including an ability to distill complex matters effectively
- Proficiency preparing comprehensive and effective presentation materials, including an ability to present detailed data in a manner suitable for senior audiences
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced matrixed environment and to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously, operating with a sense of urgency as needed
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, including ability to maintain collaborative working relationships and drive coordination and results across teams
- Self-motivation with a high degree of personal accountability and commitment
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and escalate issues appropriately
- Bachelor's degree required; relevant advanced degree preferred

Salary Range: $200,000.00 to $275,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
