Job Summary
Transformative Learning (TL), housed in the Office for Student Success, is a centralized student support unit on campus, a student’s one-stop shop for on-campus academic resources. The 3 main pillars of Transformative Learning are:
1. Academic Preparation & Achievement (APA) APA supports incoming students who have not yet met college readiness and/or are placed on a learning contract, introductory courses such as UK 101/201 and specific programming/courses that support college readiness.
2. Integrated Success Coaching (ISC) ISC oversees the individual and group coaching services for undergraduate and graduate students, in addition to leading the International Coach Federation Accredited Coach Training.
3. Peer Supported Learning (PSL) PSL oversees peer-to-peer academic support programming. These supports include The Study (provides drop-in peer tutoring for math, science and business courses), Presentation U: Speaking & Writing Center (provides peer tutoring for communication and composition assignments for any class) and Supplemental Instruction (peer lead study groups for some of UK’s most challenging courses).
TL is currently seeking an Assistant Director for Academic Preparation & Achievement to provide leadership for the Academic Preparation, Wildcat Success Plan and UK 101/201 Programs. Under the direction of the Associate Director for Transformative Learning, the Assistant Director will work to implement best practices in academic support services, foster a collaborative learning environment, and engage in strategic planning in order to grow and develop TL’s APP, WSP, and UK 101/201 services. This position requires excellent interpersonal communication skills, a high degree of attention to detail, and exceptional critical thinking skills. The primary responsibility of the Assistant Director include:
- Provide leadership and programmatic support for the growth and development of the UK 101/201 Program
- Supervision of student staff such as teaching assistant(s), student program coordinator(s), and faculty/staff instructors and peer instructors including hiring, training, scheduling, observations, and performance evaluations.
- Fostering campus partnerships and support of campus-wide initiatives
- Teaching a section of UK 101 each fall semester
- Assist in budget oversight, strategic planning, and assessment/reporting as related to peer tutoring services
Student Success will, from the time of early college outreach to graduation and beyond, support students in living a life of meaning and purpose. From a student-centered framework, our practice will be grounded in peer-reviewed literature, national best practices, and data-informed decision-making. Collaborating with the campus and community, Student Success will work through a holistic lens to support a diverse community of learners in achieving success.
