Assistant Professor of Philosophy (Fall 2025)

Position Summary
The Department of Philosophy invites full-time, tenure-track, faculty candidates for Assistant Professor of Philosophy within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences beginning August 2025. Full-time faculty at UIW are expected to teach four courses in the fall semester and four courses in the spring semester. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service and professional activities.
We are seeking candidates with research and teaching competence in any of the following areas: aesthetics, feminist philosophy, 19th century philosophy. Familiarity with the Catholic Intellectual Tradition, broadly defined, is desired.
UIW is designated as an HSI, and its student population is diverse by many measures. We are especially interested in candidates with a record of successful teaching and mentoring of students from a variety of backgrounds, including first-generation, low income, and racial and ethnic minorities.
Essential Functions
- Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the respective program.
- Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi. Note that full-time faculty are expected to be flexible, as course assignments are based on student and department needs, so multiple course preparations are to be expected.
- Prepare and deliver consistent, interactive course lectures which align with curriculum goals.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
- Prepare and administer timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses.
- Advise and mentor students; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
- Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
- Provide service to the respective department, college, university, community, and profession.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Demonstrated competency in instruction and mentoring of students from a variety of backgrounds, including first-generation, low income, and racial and ethnic minorities.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
- Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
Ph.D. in Philosophy. Note that ABD candidates will be considered with expected completion by date of assignment.
Required Work Experience
One (1) year of teaching experience in a higher education environment in the field and demonstrated instructional competency via student and peer evaluation processes.
