Assistant/Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice (Acute Care)

UIW Mission


Position Summary
The Department of Pharmacy Practice invites candidates for Assistant/Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice within the Feik School of Pharmacy. This non-tenure track faculty position will provide acute care clinical services at Baptist Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities as assigned.

Essential Functions
  • Teach courses in the didactic and experiential curriculum consistent with the needs of the department.
  • Provide a clinical pharmacy service to patients with acute illness in the acute care unit.
  • Precept pharmacy student and resident rotations.
  • Precept research projects, as needed.
  • Maintain privileging and training requirements of the practice site.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Advise students and provide individual help to students during weekly office hours.
  • Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession.
  • Comply with UIW Faculty Handbook processes and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Working knowledge in the management of conditions in the acute care setting.
  • Strong ability to work with students, patients, multidisciplinary providers, and pharmacy staff to optimize patient care.
  • Effective instructional delivery.
  • Proficient in use of instructional technology.
  • Ability to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Ability to conduct respectful relationships with students both in and outside the classroom.
  • Must possess the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employees shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
Doctor of Pharmacy Degree with postgraduate residency training in internal medicine, pharmacotherapy, or equivalent experience.

Required Work Experience
PGY2 internal medicine or pharmacotherapy pharmacy residency or fellowship, or equivalent experience in internal medicine pharmacy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Board certification in Pharmacotherapy.
  • Experience as a faculty member in a School of Pharmacy and clinical experience in acute care.


Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • Licensed pharmacist and eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Texas.
  • Applicants will be expected to become a certified preceptor with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Applicants must obtain and maintain credentialing with the practice site.
