Shift

Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. As this is an exempt position it may be possible that additional hours will be needed to fill work requirements.



Job Summary

This position is responsible for developing and facilitating the implementation of contract strategies to reduce spending, improve operational efficiencies, maximize delivered value and for delivering a higher level of customer service in support of Procurement Construction. Work will include managing a portfolio of products and/or services for Constrution. Negotiating agreements to optimize price and service, delivery, and other terms and conditions with vendors and contractors are key components of this position. Achieving these results will require the development of key interpersonal relationships with Capital Project Management Division (CPMD) staff and administrators as well as members of university administration.

The person in this position will:
  • Prepare, administer, and analyze requests for proposals and other competitive solicitations and make recommendations for award. Create contracts and renewals. Create purchase orders.
  • Manage assigned cost-savings projects from initiation to completion.
  • Ensure contract compliance with terms and conditions necessary to achieve cost savings and service satisfaction.
  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure good, reliable sources of supply, and information, schedule trials, and resolve issues with products and services.
  • Calculate, analyze, and interpret cost data to recommend cost savings opportunities and process improvements.
  • Design and assists with delivering communications to key stakeholders regarding recommendations, successes, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor market trends and conditions to ensure their contract portfolio is benchmarked appropriately.
  • Manage strategic supplier relationships with regard to sourcing, developing, and implementing specific programs that support negotiation and administration of agreements for Procurement Construction.
  • All work will be performed in accordance with University of Kentucky policy and the Kentucky Model Procurement Code and other relevant laws, rules and regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.


This position is essential to UK Procurement Construction operations.



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
  • Relevant degree preferred. MBA or master’s degree a plus.
  • 2 or more years’ relevant experience working in a construction, contracting, contract management role required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in a summary fashion utilizing Microsoft tool required.
  • Construction background with experience in successful contract negotiations preferred.
  • Must possess strong relationship-building and strategic partnering skills.
  • Willingness to work on-site.

Preferred Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and five or more years’ relevant experience working in a contracting, contract management, or supply chain-related role required.
Relevant degree preferred. MBA or master’s degree a plus.
