JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Director will lead the asset management team responsible for assets and portfolios in the Netherlands, Germany and Austria. Team members that report to the Director will be located in both the Netherlands and Germany.

The Director plays a lead role in the implementation & management of Greystar’s investment strategies at the asset level. This role supports the development and implementation of business plans and practices that achieve investment and operating goals of the portfolios and funds at the asset level.

The Asset Management team sits within Investments, working alongside Portfolio Management, Operations, Development and the Transactions team. The key function of the Asset Management team is to develop & execute the investment strategies across both Multifamily and Student Accommodation sectors, delivering performance targets in line with venture business plans and fund targets.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Monitors and oversees individual investment or portfolio performance, critically evaluating existing real estate operations and business plan execution to identify new strategies to drive NOI and maximize returns across the portfolio.
  • Manages Investments to deliver key performance metrics to achieve the business plan leasing performance, income, expenses and impact to asset returns.
  • Oversees compilation of annual operational and capital budgets and business plans for senior management and capital partners review.
  • Participates with the Company's senior leaders in routine market review discussions to examine the overall operational and financial results for the asset portfolios, present and justify business plans and makes strategy recommendations.
  • Actively participates in major capitalization initiatives, acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Monitors performance of development projects in line with business plans.
  • Works closely together with the Investment, Development, Operations and Portfolio Management teams to deliver on the asset business plan.
  • Reviews various financial, accounting, administrative, and other reports and analysis, and performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.
  • Maintains and develop a broad network of industry related resources to support the execution and growth of the organization.
  • Leads and manage team members; interviewing, hiring, on boarding and developing direct reports and other team members as appropriate and managing their performance in accordance with Company policies, values, and business practices.

Role Scope

  • Based in The Hague office (3 day minimum per week). The role will also involve travel to Germany and Austria to manage teams and assets outside the Netherlands.
  • The role will have the opportunity to influence strategies of the Company’s investment projects in the European Region.
  • The incumbent must develop a deep understanding of Greystar’s Investment Management process as well as building relationships with UK and EU leadership and Investment teams.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Educated to a degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject such as real estate, business, or finance and/or equivalent experience.
  • IT literate and fully conversant with all Microsoft packages including Excel (Advanced level) and PowerPoint (Advanced level).
  • General understanding of/interest in student/multifamily housing.

Desirable:

  • MBA in real estate, business or finance, MRICS or similar professional accreditation

Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • Demonstrable senior level experience working in a similar investment, asset or portfolio management role.
  • Demonstrable real estate experience (essential) in an international context (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of real estate and debt markets; and of standard terms and structures of deal capital.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, along with the ability to quickly interpret complex written and financial data.
  • Commercially focused and able to apply sound business principals.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership skills and sufficient to recruit, lead and manage team members to achieve high performance.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships and act with impact and influence at all levels.
  • Strong written communication skills; including the ability to articulate and discuss fund/portfolio and underlying investment, and the ability to effectively write and present concise business presentations and investment reviews.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills to juggle complex tasks and manage the workload of others, with the ability to work effectively under pressure, to deadlines and work flexibly in change environment and within a dynamic real estate investment and asset management environment.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, both with respect to managing workload and own professional development.

Desirable:

  • Relevant experience in the student accommodation, residential or hotel sectors.
  • Fluency in English and a second European Language.
  • Offshore and corporate transactional experience.
