Job Summary:
The Director of Practice Management for Hospice and Palliative Care is responsible for leading and overseeing administrative and organizational aspects of the hospice and palliative care practices across the organization. This individual will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, operational excellence, and the achievement of organizational goals. The role requires strategic planning, staff leadership, relationship management, and operational oversight to optimize service delivery and outcomes. The Director reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer of Chapters Health System.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • In partnership with the CMO, develop and execute medical staff strategic plans for hospice and palliative care service lines, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and goals.
  • Analyze market trends, develop business strategies, and lead initiatives to ensure organizational excellence in hospice and palliative care services.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to set annual objectives and KPIs for operational and clinical excellence.
  • Partner with CMO to continuously evaluate staffing models.  Develop and implement model innovation.
  • Analyze opportunities to participate in model innovation; develop proposals, write applications, respond to RFPs and participate in negotiations for new business opportunities. 

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily operations of hospice and palliative care provider staffing to ensure efficiency, productivity, and high-quality care.
  • Manages and ensures maintenance of appropriate business licenses and malpractice policies and ensures communication of COIs as required to facilities.
  • Implement and maintain best practices for workflow optimization and patient-centered care.
  • Monitor performance metrics, ensuring that all providers/groups meet or exceed quality, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Serves as point of contact for medical staff question and issue resolution.
  • Standardize policies and procedures across all practice locations.
  • Provides oversight of intake and scheduling staff. 
  • Facilitates onboarding of new medical staff, ensuring coordination of orientation schedules, ensures required licensure for all providers.

Financial Oversight:

  • In partnership with the CMO and CFO, develop and manage budgets for all hospice and palliative care medical staff, ensuring financial sustainability and profitability.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify opportunities for cost savings, and drive revenue growth through service optimization.
  • Collaborate with finance teams to manage billing, coding, and reimbursement processes specific to hospice and palliative care.
  • Reviews and approves payroll and invoices for staff contractors; analyzes productivity;
  • Monitor and review revenue cycle for hospice and palliative care services.

Clinical Quality and Compliance:

  • Partner with clinical leadership to ensure delivery of evidence-based, high-quality patient care.
  • Ensure all programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
  • Monitor and address patient satisfaction and outcomes, utilizing feedback to implement improvements.

Relationship Management:

  • Serve as a liaison between practice staff, patients, families, and community stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key partners, including referring providers, health systems, and community organizations.
  • Represent the organization at professional conferences and community events to enhance visibility and engagement.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration (MHA) or business administration (MBA) or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of medical practice leadership experience in hospice, palliative care, or healthcare operations.
  • Proven track record in managing multi-site physician practices or programs.
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance and quality assurance within hospice and palliative care.

Skills:

  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial management, including budgeting and forecasting.
  • In-depth knowledge of hospice and palliative care standards, regulations, and billing requirements.
  • Substantive experience in credentialing providers with government, managed care, commercial payers. and establishing institutional privileges.
  • Familiarity with requirements for CAQH attestations and file maintenance.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and make informed decisions.
