The Summer Intern session is a 12-week,full-time (40 hours Monday-Friday) program while the Co-op cohorts typically run 16-weeks in the Spring and Fall. In both programs, students are paid a competitive hourly rate. Continue reading to learn more about this exciting opportunity!

What you'll do

  • Perform tolerance analysis on complex mechanical assemblies and create mechanical drawings.
  • Help to create and manage Bills of Material (BOMs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Utilize CAD to update drawings and facilitate a rapid turnaround of detailed prints.
  • Apply your Engineering Skills in the design of and recommend fixtures, tools, and processes.
  • Uses mechanical components, standards, and mechanical best practices.
  • Assemble mechanical fixturing, utilize hand tools, machine tools.
  • Properly use calipers, micrometers, scales, and other measuring equipment.
  • Prototyping and Machining Experience (Vertical Mill, Drill Press, Rapid Prototype, Lathe, etc.) a plus.
  • Design parts and assemblies to support current and future Symbot products.
  • Create detailed drawings with GD&T.
  • Finite Element Analysis (depending on their background).
  • Prototype building and testing.

What you'll need

  • Currently pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and other drawing standards.
  • Experience using SolidWorks or equivalent 3D design software.
  • Familiarity with complex mechanical mechanisms specifically robotics or automation such as motors, sensors, actuators, materials, bearings, power transmission components, etc. 
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes: machining, casting, sheet metal, plastics, fabricated assemblies, etc.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis using software, like SolidWorks Simulation or ANSYS, preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
