Manager, Business Development Healthcare & Higher Education

Global Commercial Services (GCS) is a core operating group of American Express and has delivered robust growth over the past decade. GCS partners with large and enterprise companies to help them manage travel expenses and make purchases through proprietary payment solutions and expense management tools.  

The Manager of Business Development we seek will be responsible for advanced level strategic business-to-business sales of commercial card and supplier payment solutions within the Healthcare and Higher Education industries, generating profitable billings through new customer acquisition.  This role serves to drive top line growth and results for the entire sales cycle, including building and developing senior-level relationships, setting the sales strategy, and negotiating with the prospect for profitable new business. 

Success will be measured by achieving new acquisition targets and by demonstrating strong leadership skills.  Business Development Managers will deliver a minimum of 100% quota through newly acquired customers and developing a pipeline of prospects. The Large Enterprise Vertical Business Development Team is focused on acquiring and growing American Express business with US Healthcare & Higher Education organizations with annual revenues of $250M+.  Many of our current and prospective clients have a national, complex presence.  The successful candidate will work virtually and must reside in OH or IL.

Job responsibilities:

  • Acquire New Sales from prospective Healthcare & Higher Education clients with annual revenue of $250M+ in a multi-state region.
  • Sell American Express payment solutions to achieve new sales volume targets.
  • Execute advanced-level, strategic B2B sales.
  • Significant time spent prospecting, ensuring implementation of accounts, and managing new signings through the first 13 months of Booked Charge Volume.
  • Sell with integrity and appropriately track prospect data to ensure a coordinated and consistent client experience, in alignment with compliance and internal partner business requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7+ years of new customer acquisition experience selling B2B to large and enterprise level clients. Preferred experience includes Payments, Fintech, e-Commerce, Healthcare.
  • Proven success in advanced level consultative sales, negotiations, leadership, and closing skills is required.
  • Customer Centric Focus:  Thorough knowledge of successful consultative selling techniques within Procurement, Treasury, Accounts Payable, Finance related to supplier payments. 
  • Extensive experience with complex sales planning and execution:  from generating leads through aggressive cold calling, fostering the relationship, uncovering the needs, delivering the value, closing the business, negotiating agreements, and implementing a successful program.
  • The candidate must be focused and competitive with a strong drive to over-achieve.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills are a must.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Prospecting and cold calling experience a must.
  • The candidate will possess strong presentation skills to effectively represent the Corporate Payment Solutions, Corporate Card and Corporate Purchasing Solutions to Procurement, Treasury and Finance executives.

Salary Range: $70,000.00 to $125,000.00 annually + sales incentive + benefits
