The Manager, Decision Sciences, Risk & Business Analytics reports to the Sr. Director , Risk Management and will lead the creation of the decision sciences team to provide a comprehensive framework for managing credit risks in auto finance, enabling more accurate risk assessments and informed decision-making.
In this role you will partner with Executive Leadership, Finance, Third Party Vendors, IT, Operations and Business stakeholders to identify areas where data science can drive value, translate business requirements into analytical solutions, develop and implement data strategies aligned with business goals.
The Manager, Decision Sciences, Risk & Business Analytics will manage a team responsible for Model Validation (Underwriting and Servicing), Data Analytics, Report Automation, and related functions to broadly support the risk function.
Core to this role will be capabilities for decision sciences, data mining, data manipulation and data understanding for the purpose of risk evaluation regarding collection, loss, recoveries, delinquency, balance liquidation, new originations and other projections for the auto loan portfolios. Responsibilities extend to the development of sophisticated risk/forecasting models, validating and updating existing models and analysis of performance data for the purpose of proposing risk assessment. This Manager is also responsible for providing information used to create reports for a variety of internal and external clients. This position will interact with many other departments in the interest of achieving the overall company objectives.
Essential Functions:
• Lead the AN Finance risk management decision sciences function in the following areas:
o Data Management and Quantitative Analysis - Effective collection, organization, and interpretation of data. This data will be used to develop mathematical and statistical models to help evaluate the likelihood of loan defaults and determine optimum pricing of loans.
o Predictive Analytics: Utilize historical data and machine learning algorithms to build predictive models to forecast loan default rates including PD and LGD components
o Auto Decisioning: Apply rules and logic to process data and make automated credit decisions by evaluating loan applications, setting credit limits, and determine buy and sell rates based on calculated risk
o Risk Assessment Tools: Own and manage credit scoring models and scorecards used to evaluate the creditworthiness of borrowers in auto finance. This will also include Behavioral Scoring Models used to predict roll rates or propensity to pay for delinquent customers using techniques like logistic regression, decision trees, and neural networks
o Model Validation: Validate models through rigorous testing, monitoring, and adjustments to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
o Data Analysis and Mining - Oversee data collection, ETL processes, and infrastructure for financial analytics, Apply advanced analytical methods to extract insights from complex datasets, Utilize data mining techniques for pattern extraction and analysis
• Lead cross-functional teams of data scientists and analysts, providing mentorship on technical execution and project prioritization
• Oversee and validate third party vendors development of credit scoring models, risk rating systems, and other quantitative tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of credit decision-making processes.
• Build or enhance existing automated dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to track KPIs like delinquency rates, recovery efficiency, and portfolio profitability
• Lead interface with IT, Business Intelligence teams to investigate potential automation of existing reports, data mart creation to enable the Risk Department to self-serve their reporting needs.

• This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive end-to-end analytics projects, from data extraction and modeling to interpretation and presentation, while also providing strategic direction and fostering team growth
• Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies in the field, continuously updating skills to drive innovation and improve financial outcomes.
• Capable of managing many analysts concurrently in a fast paced, highly iterative and entrepreneurially spirited environment.
• Coordinate with finance, risk, and IT departments to align data initiatives with business objectives
Requirements:
• Technical Skills
o Advanced degree in STEM; 6+ years in data science, including 4+ years in financial services or auto lending
o Programming: Proficiency in Python, R, and SQL for large-scale data analysis and manipulation
o Data Infrastructure: Experience with data lakes, relational databases, and API integrations
o Statistical Analysis: Strong background in statistics, applied mathematics, and quantitative methods
o Data Visualization: Ability to create compelling visualizations using tools like Tableau, Power BI etc.
o Credit Risk Analysis: Understanding of credit risk concepts and financial modeling
• Soft Skills
o Communication: Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business insights
o Leadership: Experience in managing and mentoring data science teams
o Problem-solving: Analytical thinking and creative approach to solving complex business problems
o Project Management: End-to-end project management skills, from conception to implementation
o Stakeholder Management: Ability to engage with cross-functional teams and senior management
• Domain Knowledge
o Auto Finance Industry: Auto finance lifecycle (originations to collections), regulatory compliance (e.g., Fair Lending Act), and competitive market dynamics. Understanding of the automotive financial services sector is preferred, but not mandatory
o Risk Management: Experience in financial risk analysis and mitigation strategies
