This position leads projects and other significant efforts related to business transformation and business objectives. Responsible for leading cross-functional project teams. Follows Whataburger’s Project Management methodology to create and execute project work plans while strictly adhering to and enforcing change management procedures to revise planning as appropriate to meet changing business needs and requirements. Leads day-to-day operational aspects of each project’s scope, schedule, risk, and budget while ensuring all documents are current, complete, and stored appropriately in Project Server. Responsible for the quality of deliverables prepared by the team. Serves as a methodology example and advisor to business leaders and the project team.

Responsibilities:

  • Anticipates project delays and adjusts expectations, schedules, and resources to stay on course.
  • Collaborates with the stakeholders across departments and promotes project success through development of subject matter expert relationships.
  • Ensures all business/support organizations are aligned with clear planning and defined processes to help effectively execute the project.
  • Tracks and documents changes, and their impact on the cost/timeframe of project workflows.
  • Prepares team for engagement and delivery.
  • Effectively applies and enforces Whataburger’s project management methodology.
  • Develops relationships and partnerships across all business units, emphasizing business unit’s functions within the company and business unit’s capacity to serve as a productive strategic partner.
  • Accountable and responsible for ongoing project updates.
  • Accountable and responsible for precisely communicating risks, issues or opportunities that cannot be resolved or acted upon at the project level.
  • Effectively communicates project expectations to team members, Sponsors and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.
  • Closely coordinates and controls project change requests with functional users.  Defends case for change.
  • Responsible for due diligence analysis for vendor selection and for controlling the integrity of invoice and actual work performed.
  • Manages project budget.   
  • Effectively facilitates meetings.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience required

Experience:

  • 6+ years’ Project Management experience preferably in restaurant industry 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of PMI principles
  • Meeting facilitation
  • Budgeting principles
  • Presentation development and delivery
  • Agile methodology
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Visio (as applicable)
  • Proficiency in Workday (as applicable)
  • Familiarity with Restaurant Operating, Back of House, and Point of Sales systems desired
  • Ability to communicate, influence and negotiate decisions while motivating assigned staff
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Professional Certification:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred

Working Conditions/Travel Requirements:

  • Expected to work the necessary time to satisfactorily fulfill job responsibilities
  • Must be able to report to work timely and as required by operational/business needs
  • Must be able to work a full-time schedule and work outside of normal business hours when necessary
  • Some travel, both locally and long distances, (including air travel), to worksites, meeting sites, and other locations may be necessary
